L’UQAR obtient une Chaire de recherche du Canada en biologie intégrative de la flore nordique (modifié de Jean-François Bouchard, UQAR, mardi 15 mai 2018)
L’Université du Québec à Rimouski vient d’obtenir une Chaire de recherche du Canada en biologie intégrative de la flore nordique. Dirigée par le professeur Guillaume de Lafontaine, cette chaire mènera des travaux novateurs sur la migration et l’adaptation des espèces dans un contexte de changements climatiques globaux.
Cette nouvelle chaire de recherche vient bonifier l’axe d’excellence de l’UQAR en nordicité.
Deux axes de recherche regrouperont les travaux réalisés dans le cadre de la Chaire : 1) la menace d’extinction à la marge chaude de la flore au nord de la forêt tempérée et 2) la capacité d’expansion à la limite nordique. Je travaillerai plus spécifiquement dans le cadre du premier axe, pour comprendre l’histoire plurimillénaire des forêts du Bas-Saint-Laurent en lien avec les incendies naturels et anthropiques (charbons de bois dans les sols).
Guillaume de Lafontaine est professeur en biologie à l’Université du Québec à Rimouski depuis l’automne 2017. Titulaire d’un doctorat en écologie végétale de l’Université Laval, il a publié une vingtaine d’articles dans des revues internationales. Spécialiste de la biologie intégrative et évolutive des écosystèmes terrestres, le professeur de Lafontaine consacre ses recherches à la compréhension des processus qui modulent les patrons de la biodiversité sous l’angle de la biogéographie.

The University of Québec at Rimouski obtains a Research Chair in integrative biology of the nordic flora. Directed by professor Guillaume de Lafontaine, this chair will lead innovative works about species migration and adaptation in the context of global change.
This new research chair gives weight to the UQAR axis in excellence in nordicity.
Two research axes will gather the works realized in the framework of the Chair: 1) the threat of extinction at the warm margin of the northern flora of the temperate forest and 2) its expansion capacity at the nordic limit. I will work more specifically in the framework of the first axis, to understand the plurimillenary history of the forests in the Bas-Saint-Laurent in relationship with the natural and anthropogenic fires (soil wood charcoals).
Guillaume de Lafontaine is professor in biology at the University of Québec at Rimouski since Automn 2017. PhD in plant ecology at the University Laval, he has published more that twenty articles in international journals. Specialist in integrative and evolutionary biology of the terrestrial ecosystems, professor de Lafontaine dedicates his research to the understanding of the processes that modulate the patterns of biodiversity from the angle of biogeography.
